This model depicts the South Eastern & Chatham Railway's (SECR) Diagram 1559 25-Ton Goods Brake Van which became known as the 'Dance Halls' owning to the spacious cabin provided for the Guard. The first prototype van was designed and built by the SECR in 1918. In 1921 a production run of 20 to Diagram 1559 were built with 20 more to diagram 1560 being built in 1923 with a final batch of 20 being built in 1926 & 1927. The main difference between the two diagrams being the channel on the underframes with Dia 1559 having a 12" deep solebar and 1560 had a 15" deep solebar. The Dance Hall's were replaced by the SR 25'Ton 'Pill Box' Brake Van which afforded a Guard much less covered accommodation. Whilst the final examples were built during the late 1920s, the Dance Halls were long lived with some surviving through to the late-twentieth century having been granted a second life in departmental use.

With a high specification including a chassis that features full depth solebars with brake and spring detail on the underside, the interior is not overlooked either and inside you will find the Guard's stove, seating and desk - all visible through the glazed windows at each end of the vehicle. Separate wire handrails are fitted along with lamp brackets, metal buffers and the distinctive foot boards which stretch the length of the vehicle.
