Accessories/Track Overview:
There is no layout which cannot be improved by the addition of some form of accessory. Not too long ago there were few accessories available. The Hornby and other O gauge manufacturers produced some nice tinplate buildings but you often saw little in the way of scenic additions with the toy train era. Today's toy train collectors stay pretty much to that concept and so Hornby O gauge, Lionel and even Hornby Dublo layouts do not have much beyond the actual few buildings available from the particular manufacturer.
Today's scale model railways are presented often with complete scenic additions from landscaping material such as grass, lichen, heather, trees, etc., to simple or elaborate buildings made from plastic, or card. Finishing touches include backscenes, people, animals, vehicles, all of which create the busy look of the real life railway.
